Emotional, Psychological, Historical Education: VICare considers emotional, psychological, and spiritual education a core pillar of intervention, change, and lifelong practice. Our culture does not tend to offer formal training to develop emotional or psychological understanding or well-being. Combat experience deeply affects the way veterans see the world emotionally, psychologically, and existentially and veterans are ill-prepared to accept, contextualize and integrate their experiences into their understanding of the world. When combat veterans return home they are left to their own ability and knowledge to negotiate the confusing, hostile and dark terrain of their emotions, psychology, and psyche. Therefore, VICare programming is built upon a foundation of research, theory, and pragmatic information that is specifically designed to help veterans develop a deep understanding and acceptance of their own psychological world.
